Annotation 5

Annotation:

Lisa Tolin. The effects of abortion. Psychology Today, Jul/Aug 97

In the article, we can clearly see the effect of abortion. In previous article, we may know the psychology trauma of the women go to abortion is much more than the miscarried ones. It’s a study to examine how such factors and ethnicity influence the psychological after-effects of abortions. They find that the best clue to women’s mental health is their state of mind before the pregnancy--in particular the levels of self-esteem. In eclipse of reason, surely we’re impressive the clinic room. The psychology trauma is overlapped with the experience of the clinic room and unhappy memory to get unwanted pregnancy.

Surprisingly, the religion like Catholics seldom gets involved to the factors which women go to abortion. Nor did religion affect women's long-term happiness after abortion, once education level, income, and initial self-esteem were taken into account. In the end of the article, it says: No one is sure how the added stress of Operation Rescue activism and recent attacks on clinics and doctors will affect women who choose to abort.

In my view, based on the article, the abortion’s necessity is uncertain. Go a step further; do the abortion rights and choices controlled in women’s free wills? I think the reasons why cause women go to abortion are the government’s turn. Women tend to associate the two unhappy experience, so in my personal viewpoint, the mental treatment is much important or in the rest of life, the problem is still unsolved.

In “The effects of abortion”, these author compares two groups: one is the miscarriage andthe other is the abortion group. To our surprise, the percentage between miscarriage and abortion groups change surprisingly in six months to five year. The abortion group still suffers mental distress even after quite long time. Besides, the researchers also mention that women who had an abortion have to make the best to avoid thinking about the event. Because women are easy to associate the two unhappy events together, and that’s the main reason to let women suffer mental illness. The two unhappy experiences, one is the unwanted pregnancy maybe to be rapped and the other is the period when women are undertook abortion surgeon.

One of the researchers says: "It has always been considered, and this study also shows, that the decision to terminate may bring with it long-standing feelings of anxiety and guilt.”

In my viewpoint, I think the abortion does do more or less to women. Though they might be reluctant to abortion, but the mental guilt still exists. Connect to my previous annotation, abortion is very awful period. Abortion can solve the problem now, but it can’t promise to solve problems in the future. Furthermore, I think the government should have the emergency agent to deal with such episodes. Namely, women don’t undergo the experience. Government could strengthen the mental therapy to keep their accept for the child.

You might want to reduce the length of the article and make it a shorter one. In addition, add some of your own idea in the article, so that you may put it in your final paper.
